In 2023 Jake Catterall set out to run from the Arctic Circle in Norway to the southern edge of Europe, and not stop until he got there. 5,660 kilometres. 94 days. Eight countries. I went along as support crew and documenter, which in practice meant driving, feeding, and shooting, often in that order.
We started in the cold light of northern Norway and finished on a beach in Tarifa. Between those two points: Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain. Some days the frame was a single body against an empty road. Some days it was the strangers who ran a stretch alongside him and then peeled off home.
The hard part was never the distance to a shot. It was deciding what 94 days of one man’s resolve actually looks like, when you only get to keep a few hundred frames of it.
