Red Bull X-Fighters put a freestyle motocross course on the lawns of the Union Buildings in Pretoria. Riders throwing themselves and a hundred kilograms of bike into backflips against one of the most photographed buildings in the country.
There is no second take at an event like this. A trick lasts about two seconds from launch to landing, and either you were on it or you weren’t. So I stopped composing and started reacting. Pick the ramp, pick the light, trust the timing, fire.
The keepers are the frames where the rider is at the top of the arc, weightless, with the building sitting underneath them.
[ROY: what year was this? Any riders you want named in a caption?]
